Colonoscopy with Golytely

For this prep, you will need:

  • The Golytely Bowel Prep Kit contains:
    • 1 Gallon with Golytely
    • Optional: flavor packets

Patients having their procedure before 11am

Afternoon Before the Procedure (5 PM)

  • Mix Golytely with water to the indicated line near the top of the gallon jug
  • Shake jug until powder is mixed with liquid. May be easier to drink when it is chilled
  • Optional: sprinkle flavor packets into the container (one package is enough for 1 gallon of fluid).
  • Drink 8-ounce glasses of the solution every 10-15 minutes until you are finished with half the bottle
    • A straw may be helpful to use when drinking the solution
    • Bowel movements may begin one hour after drinking the first glass
    • Bloating, nausea, and chills are common. This will disappear once bowel movements begin. If nausea becomes acute, stop drinking the solution for 30 minutes, then resume drinking as before.

Evening before Procedure (10 PM)

  • Drink the remaining half gallon via 8-ounce glasses every 10-15 minutes until completed
